Vanna Cure is Director of Advocacy and Engagement at Independent Sector. In this role, Vanna is responsible for leading the development, execution, and evaluation of strategies that mobilize the sector and IS members in support of its core federal legislative priorities. With over 10 years of experience, Vanna has extensive expertise in public policy advocacy, grassroots mobilization, and nonprofit capacity building.
Previously, Vanna served as Interim Executive Director of Athens Land Trust (ALT), a nonprofit organization dedicated to land conservation, affordable housing, and community development in her hometown of Athens, Georgia. In this role, she led the organization through a critical leadership transition and the development of a new strategic plan. Prior to ALT, she was the Associate Director of Advocacy at Prosperity Now, where she served as a key liaison between the policy team and a nationwide network of local nonprofits, working to promote policies centered on housing, tax equity, financial security, and consumer protection. Earlier in her career, Vanna was the National Training Director at the Democratic National Committee, where she led capacity-building efforts for thousands of state party leaders, Democratic candidates, and grassroots organizers. She began her career in the office of former U.S. Congressman John Barrow (GA), holding policy and organizing roles in both his Washington, D.C., and Georgia district offices.
Vanna holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and an MBA from Valdosta State University. When she is not working, Vanna enjoys road cycling, traveling, and cheering on her favorite college football team-the Georgia Bulldogs.
