The headright system was not used in the Northern Neck (the area lying between the Potomac & Rappahannock rivers).  Beginning in 1690, land grants in the Northern Neck were issued by agents which were maintained separately.

William Thompson, Clerk of Westmoreland County, to Thomas Bage (?), blacksmith...  150 acres on north side of Grays Creek.  He appoints his two sons in Surry County, Samuel Thompson and John Thompson, as his attorneys. (Katherine Thompson of Washington Parish, wife of William Thompson, relinquished her Right of Dower).
