In 1655 Cople Parish was given a gift of
one acre to erect a new church on the 'east bank
of Nomini Creek' by Youell Watkins. His
stipulation was that it be built on the
gravesites of his ancestors and Grandfather,

The original

was protected by a writ in the Westmoreland
County Record Books that 'Under the laws
of Virginia this burial ground of the Wright
Family could not be sold by any Wright when
selling land surrounding it.' The
gravesite has since been destroyed. |
