destroyed in the War of 1812. The State
Census of 1782 and 1784 for Hampshire County
remained intact, and is now in the hands of
the Virginia Historical Society at Richmond,
Va. In 1790 there were in Hampshire County
7,346 souls, of which 1,662 were free white
males above 16 years of age; 1,956 were free
white males under 16; 3,261 were free white
females, and 454 were slaves. |
