Federal Census of 1790.

The Federal Census of 1790 for Virginia was destroyed in the War of 1812. The State Census of 1782 and 1784 for Hampshire County remained intact, and is now in the hands of the Virginia Historical Society at Richmond, Va. In 1790 there were in Hampshire County 7,346 souls, of which 1,662 were free white males above 16 years of age; 1,956 were free white males under 16; 3,261 were free white females, and 454 were slaves.
