THE REED FAMILY

George A. Reed was a sailor and merchant in Westmoreland County.  During the Civil War, he was in the Confederate Secret Service and Signal Corps.  On April 8, 1865, he was captured while a blockade-runner at Cobb’s Neck, Maryland and detained at the Old Capitol Prison in Washington, D.C. where he took the oath of allegiance to the United States and was released on April 14, 1865.  He returned to Westmoreland County, VA and was a sailor and continued to work and harvest fish and shellfish.  In later years, he was listed as a merchant.  He filed for a Civil War Pension in 1902, with the last payment in September 1907.
 
George's wife, Charlotte Ann Lampkin Reed was a descendant of the Payne and Neale families of Westmoreland County, Virginia.  She died on July 31, 1880 and was buried at Locust Farm on August 1, 1880.

Llewellyn Taylor Reed b. circa 1850 d. october 18, 1924 m. Mary Ann Craft in 1870 buried in  Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington, D.C.  He was a sailor and Captain the schooner The Earl Biscoe while living in Virginia.  When he moved to Washington, D.C. about 1900 he worked as an insurance agent and a watchman at the Treasury Department.
 
George H. Reed b. circa 1851 m. Mary Ida Callis William Reed b. circa 1854 in Virginia d. June 22, 1876 when he drowned in the Potomac River at the 11 St., S.W. Washington fork of the river.  He is buried in Westmoreland County, Virginia.
 
Charles Reed b. circa 1856 m. Florence Baker December 23, 1879.
 
Warren Lamokin Reed b. September 12, 1858 m. Jeannette Ann Coates November 24, 1891 d. November 14, 1927 buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Grove, Virginia in Westmoreland County.
 
Emma Reed b. April 18, 1865, married Charles Lewis Callis December 20, 1881 in Westmoreland County.  Charles died in August 1891 in Washington D.C. and is buried in Westmoreland County.  Emma died May 18, 1912 in Washington D.C. and is buried in Congressional Cemetery.

Robert Herbert Callis born April 18, 1883 in Westmoreland County, Virginia - married Millicent Cecilia Hunter on September 12, 1900 - died November 16, 1938 and is buried at Arlington Cemetery.
 
Bernard Osborne Callis born December 8, 1885 in Westmoreland County - married Edna M. Bailey - died December 1, 1956.
 
Mollie G. Callis born January 1887 in Westmoreland County, Virginia.
 
Mabel Gertrude Callis Pape - born December 1889 - died December 21, 1974 - buried at Congressional Cemetery.
 
Charles Lewis Callis, Jr. born May 22, 1891 in Washington, DC – died in 1960s.
 
Garnet Callis born 12 January 1893 in Washington, DC - died 21 December 1955 - buried at Arlington Cemetery.
 
When they moved to Washington, D.C. in the late 1800’s Emma’s husband, Charles ran a grocery store in Southwest Washington.  After his death, she worked as a clerk at the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. and was a tailoress.  She was a member of the American Flag Council No. 5 Daughters of America at the time of her death.
Gertrude Reed b. circa 1860 m. Achilles Reed November 25, 1884 in Westmoreland County, d. August 1, 1885 of a spinal infection buried at Locust Farm, Westmoreland County.
