George A. Reed was a sailor
and merchant in Westmoreland
County. During the Civil War, he
was in the Confederate Secret
Service and Signal Corps. On April
8, 1865, he was captured while a
blockade-runner at Cobb’s Neck,
Maryland and detained at the Old
Capitol Prison in Washington, D.C.
where he took the oath of allegiance
to the United States and was
released on April 14, 1865. He
returned to Westmoreland County, VA
and was a sailor and continued to
work and harvest fish and shellfish.
In later years, he was listed as a
merchant. He filed for a Civil War
Pension in 1902, with the last
payment in September 1907.

George's wife, Charlotte Ann
Lampkin Reed was a descendant of
the Payne and Neale families of
Westmoreland County, Virginia. She
died on July 31, 1880 and was buried
at Locust Farm on August 1, 1880.

time of her death.
