The following deed, listed in No. 11,
Register of Land Office, General Records, "Deeds from Land
Office Records, 1655-1902," with an explanation stating
that "copies of deeds recorded in the counties of location
& probably submitted to the Land Office in cases involving
either land disputes or requests for inclusive grants."
Information on the outside cover does not indicate the origin
of the copy in the Land Office file.
Know all men
by these presents that I John Walker of Yecomoco Planter for
a valuable consideration in hand allready recd have
bargained & sold unto John Meekes of sd Yocomoco allso
Planter a parcell of Land out of my Dividend containing
fifty acres be it more or less, tying and adjoining to the
Land formerly in the occupation of George Knott but now in
the occupation and hold of the sd John Meekes, the sd
parcell of fifty acres begining at the corner tree being
formerly a dividing tree betwixt Richd. Houldin and John
Walker but now being a deviding tree between Robert Laud and
John Meekes the said tree bein a white oak at the South end
and a Red oak marked two ways at the North end of the Sd
Land and one small gum at the head of the Indian Cabin
gullett deviding the Land of the sd John Walker and John
Meekes running North West the sd John Meekes to : have & to
hold the sd parcell of Fifty acres for himself and to the
use of his heires exectrs and assignes to his and their own
proper uses and behoof forever & I the sd Jno Walker my
heires exectrs and assigns and every of us the sd fifty
acres unto the sd John Meekes his heirs exec and assignes
against all people shall & will warrant acquit & for ever
defend by these presents jn witness whereof I have hereunto
sett my hand the fifteenth of Novembr 1654. John Walker

20th August 1655 This Sale of Land to
Jno Meekes was acknowledged in Court by John Walker and is
Recorded.
