Local hunter bags coyote

Opening day of firearms deer season found dedicated deer hunter James White heading up a tree with his scattergun in hand.  White was hunting in Westmoreland County that day and hoped to bag a nice deer while enjoying the woods.  At approximately 5:45 a.m., just after getting into his stand, he heard a howl unlike any he had heard before.

“It was eerie sounding,” he said.

The howls continued for a short time and sounded as if they were getting farther away before abruptly ending just as suddenly as they had started.

Just before 7 a.m., White heard something coming steadily towards his stand as if on a beeline to his location.

“I had to be in the right place at the right time I guess,” he surmised.

Knowing from a previous experience the past archery season that the coyotes can be very skittish and fast, he waited until the canine was at ten yards before making his move.  With a lethal load of buckshot, it was the end of the line for the ‘yote.
