Bacon's War
Small marauding parties were carried on
by a few disgruntled men throughout
Westmoreland County, namely Joseph
Hardwick, Richard Donahan, Richard
Barton and Stephen Mannerling. All
were jailed, and brought into court June
13, 1677 where they all made depositions; confessed
their guilt, and on bended-knee
"humbly and unfeigned confess and
acknowledge our said traitorous
rebellious practices, whereby we have
rendered ourselves lyable to ye most
severe punishment; but do Crave and
implore mercy and pardon &ct."
