Having declared war on Germany in 1917, on May 18th the Selective Service Act was passed which authorized the president to increase the military establishment.  Males between 18 thru 45 of age were required to register.

The World War I draft consisted of three separate registrations.

First. On June 5, 1917, men aged twenty-one to thirty-one or born between June 6, 1886 - June 5, 1896.

Second. On June 5, 1918, men who turned twenty-one years of age since the previous registration — born between June 6, 1896 - June 5, 1897: men who had not previously registered & were not already in the military registered.  A supplemental registration August 24, 1918, for men who turned twenty-one years of age since June 5, 1918.

Third. On Sept 12, 1918, for men aged eighteen to twenty-one & thirty-one to forty-five or born between Sept 11, 1872 thru Sept 12, 1900.
