The original Locust Hill Farm dwelling
stood on property originally patented to
John Whistone in 1663 of 2,500
acres. Completely removed by the spring
of 1982, the house consisted of a center
hall with two rooms to either side on
the ground floor, stairs on the east
side of the entrance hall led to the
bedrooms upstairs and another staircase
ended in attic on the third floor.
Built directly on the ground on buried
sandstone, the house had little rot.
Two chimneys provided heat for the
house, and a detached kitchen, which was
connected to the main house via a
breeze-way was removed in 1932. The
Sanford family is said to have become
owners of the farm when Richard
Sanford married Frances Sydnor
in 1853. |
