Bell House Orphanage: The Episcopal Home for Children

 

The work on the house began in 1895 as a free summer outing service; special attention being given to under-nourished children and to those recovering from illness or in general need of physical upbuilding.

 

 

 

Alexander Melvelle Bell The Bell Home Orphanage was built by Professor Alexander Melvelle Bell (father of Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone) on Monroe Bay for a summer home for the children in his Episcopal Home in Washington, D.C.  Mr. Davenport was the administrator of the home.
