Bell House Orphanage:
The Episcopal
Home for Children |
|
The work on the house began in 1895 as a
free summer outing service; special
attention being given to under-nourished
children and to those recovering from
illness or in general need of physical
upbuilding. |
The Bell
Home Orphanage was built by Professor
Alexander Melvelle Bell (father of Alexander
Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone) on
Monroe Bay for a summer home for the children in
his Episcopal Home in Washington, D.C. Mr.
Davenport was the administrator of the home.
