The
family is that of one Doctor
Moses Payne, born in Newark, New
Jersey – came to Westmoreland county,
Virginia where he married Catharine Wroe,
daughter of William and Grace
(Chancellor) Wroe. They moved to
Frederick county, Virginia where Dr.
Payne died.
The
following, owned by Mrs. Esther Hainsworth, and a great – great –
granddaughter of Dr. Moses Payne. The
Bible had been through several fires and is
badly torn, etc. Copy of record from
Moses Payne's family Bible – it is the
lower half of the page, the top half is
torn off.

Gracy Payne, the
daughter of Moses Payne and Caty his wife was
born March 10th, 1790 on Wednesday
night at 9 o’clock. Was married Feb. 13th,
1810. Departed this life March 20th,
1810.
(NOTE: It is
almost positive that she married her cousin
Chancellor Wroe (son of Benjamin and Sarah
Chancellor-Wroe). He married second in 1812 his
cousin Elizabeth Monroe Chancellor, who married
as a second husband in 1825 Capt. Wm. H. Barbee
of Fauquier county, Virginia.)
Polly I. Payne
the daughter of Moses Payne and Caty his wife
was born October 19th, 1793 on
Saturday night at 8 o'clock. Was married Dec.
14th, 1815.
Caty C. Payne, the daughter of
Moses Payne and Caty his wife was born March 25th,
17___ (illegible)
on Wednesday about 5 o'clock.
William F. Payne
the son of Moses Payne and Caty his wife was
born April 10th, 1796 on Wednesday
night about 1 o'clock. Was married July 19th
__________ (illegible).
Moses C. Payne,
the son of Moses Payne and Caty his wife, was
born November __, 17___ (illegible) on Wednesday
night about 1
o'clock ______ (illegible). Departed
________ (illegible) 13th, 1802.
Jane C. Payne,
the daughter of Moses Payne and Caty, his wife,
