W. Bowie
Eugene W.
Bowie Sr., 88, of Oak Grove went home to be
with the Lord on Friday, March 4, 2011.
He was born
on March 8, 1922, at Laurel Grove Farm in
Oak Grove. Mr. Bowie was a U.S. Navy combat
veteran, serving during World War II in the
South Pacific. After an honorable discharge
from the Navy, he came home to work the
family farm and to be a waterman. Later he
also worked in real estate, helped run Bowie
Brothers Sand and Gravel and established and
ran Winter Harbor Seafood in Oak Grove for
25 years.
Mr. Bowie is
survived by his loving wife of 63 years,
Virginia P. Bowie of the home; two sons,
Eugene W. Bowie Jr. and his wife, Max, and
Larry W. Bowie and his wife, Judy;
grandchildren Merci Bowie and her husband,
Josh Lukens, Gabrielle Bowie, Eugene Bowie
III and his wife, Micah, Beth Bowie, Brandon
Bowie and Whitney Cannon and her husband,
Shawn; and great-grandchildren Kyra Newnam,
Nicholas Silvestri, Eugene Bowie IV and A.
J. and Brayden Cannon. Other survivors
include his brother George Bowie and his
wife, Marie; his sister Dollie Bowie; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bowie was
preceded in death by his parents, Charles
and Elizabeth Bowie; his brother Charles
"Legs" Bowie; and his sisters Agnes Moss and
Sophie Tillette.
The family
wishes to express sincere thanks for the
very loving care given by Linda Beavers,
Dina Stephan and Margaret Stephan. Your
kindness and devotion shown to our "Pop"
will never be forgotten.
The family
will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Monday, March 7, at Oak Grove Baptist
Church. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, March 8, at the church, with the
Rev. Randall Snipes officiating. Interment
will follow in St. Peter's cemetery, Oak
Grove.

Ada K. Posey, 103, of Colonial Beach died
Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2012, at Golden Living
Center. She is survived by one daughter,
Genoila Gray of Sylmar, Calif., and five
grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March
2, at First Baptist Church, Colonial Beach,
with the Rev. Dr. David Cunningham
officiating. Burial will be in Sharp Hill
Cemetery, King George.
Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m.
Monday at the funeral home.

Neva J. Bosworth
Neva Jean Bosworth, 77, of Colonial
Beach passed away Saturday May 9, 2009, at
Mary Washington Hospital.
She was born April 9, 1932, in
Galloway, W.Va., a daughter of the late
Sidney Duvall and Madeline Hunt Duvall
Tenney. She was united in marriage Oct. 27,
1957, to Robert L. Bosworth, who preceded
her in death in 1984.
Survivors include one sister, Carolyn
Duvall Schoudt, wife of the late George
Schoudt of Tucker, Ga.; two nephews, Gregory
and wife Pat Schoudt of Lawrenceville, Ga.,
and Jeff and wife Doris Hardin of Warren,
Ohio; two nieces, Penny and husband Darrell
Hite of Leesburg, S.C., and Kelly Hardin of
Southington, Ohio; and several great-nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Neva helped rear two nephews, Eric
and wife Hope Bosworth, and David Bosworth,
both of King George County.
She was preceded in death by one
sister; Phyllis Duvall Hardin.
Neva was owner and operator with her
husband of the Paul Baker potato chip
company in Colonial Beach from 1972 to 1980,
She worked for the Department of Defense for
the Army division at the Pentagon for years
and, after retiring, returned to her role as
a homemaker. She completed one year at
Fairmont State College.
Neva loved making wreaths and floral
arrangements, and she was a Methodist by
faith.
Friends will be received Wednesday,
May 13, at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N.
Walnut St. Philippi, W.Va., from 8 a.m.
until the 1 p.m. service hour, with the Rev.
Alicia Rapking officiating. Interment will
follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

Uwe K. Hinz
Uwe K. Hinz of Colonial
Beach died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, in
Fredericksburg. He was born Nov. 13,
1928, in Neumunster, Germany, and immigrated
to the United States with his family in
1930. He was raised in the suburbs of
Chicago, Ill., where he attended school. He
served in the U.S. Navy in World War II from
1946 to 1948.
After college, he spent
five years in Madison, Wis., then moved in
1956 to Northern Virginia, where he worked
as an assistant engineer and later as an
erection superintendent for the structural
steel fabricating company Southern Iron
Works.
His career included the
design and construction of buildings
throughout the area. He worked in the code
enforcement division for the city of
Alexandria for 20 years, the last five as
the building official.
Since his retirement from
the city in 1989, he had practiced as a
professional engineer from his home in
Colonial Beach. While living in Colonial
Beach, he was active in politics and served
on the Planning Commission and Board of
Zoning Appeals and was a member of Town
Council for four years.
He is survived by his
loving wife, Mary Hinz; his children, Jeremy
Hinz of Asheville, N.C., Anthony Hinz of
Alexandria, Jane Kallander of Madison, Wis.,
and Sally Malloy of Herndon.

A. Wilcox
Barbara Ann Wilcox, 66, of Lorton passed away Monday, July 2,
2007, at her home.
Ann was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member
of Choice Baptist Church in Fredericksburg.
She is survived by her husband, R. D. Wilcox; a daughter, Mona
Snyder; sons, Wesley and Tim Wilcox; a brother, Marion Barnes;
sisters, Frances Dotson, Linda Evans and Kaye Overcash; and
grandchildren, Chris, James, Sarah, Timmy, Lauren, Ryan,
Brittany, Tyler, Jon and Connor.

Friday, July 6, from 6 to 9 p.m.
A funeral will be held Saturday, July 7th at the

Leonard S. Skeens
Leonard S. "Lenny" Skeens, 72, of Westmoreland County died
Thursday, June 28, 2007, at Mary Washington Hospital.
He owned and operated Lenny's Restaurant in Colonial Beach for
more than 30 years.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge 1267, Colonial Beach;
Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 4315, Colonial Beach; and an
avid patron of the Riverboat on the Potomac.
He loved to fish, to play pool and to bet on horse racing.
Lenny is survived by his wife of 23 years, Shelby E. Skeens; six
daughters, Teresa Duke of Westmoreland, Patricia Carlin of
Spotsylvania County, Regina Stephens of Georgia, Kimberely
Davenport of Tennessee, Brandy Robinson of Montross and Crystal
Elliott of Quantico; one son, L.G. Skeens of Honaker; two
sisters, Ellen Parks of Front Royal and Norma Harris of
Sterling; one brother, Terry Skeens of Richmond; 15
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Mable and Vivian
Breeding; and two brothers, Donald Skeens and Nick Skeens.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. at Nash and Slaw
Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, on Sunday, July 1, with the Rev.
Ron Okrasinski officiating.

Catherine
Gouldman "Cat" Wilkerson, 83, of Colonial Beach died Tuesday,
March 27, 2007, at Farnham Manor in Farnham.
Born in Foneswood Aug. 24, 1923,
she was the co-founder of Wilkerson's Seafood Restaurant and a
member of Colonial Beach Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late
David and Fannie Gouldman, and was the widow of Walter Stephen
Wilkerson.
Survivors include a son, James
Walter Wilkerson and his wife, Alice Reynolds Wilkerson; a
grandson, James Reynolds Wilkerson and his wife, Jessica Lynn
Wilkerson; and a granddaughter, Kristen Louise Wilkerson, all of
Colonial Beach; one sister, Susie Fields McKiever of Farnham;
one sister-in-law, Ellen Wilkerson Worrells of Colonial Beach;
and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 11
a.m. Friday, March 30, at Colonial Beach Baptist Church, with
the Rev. Johnny R. Almond officiating. Burial will follow in
Historyland Memorial Park, King George.

Pauline E. Delano
Pauline Efford Delano of Oldhams in
Westmoreland County died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003.
She was born at Farnham in Richmond County
Dec. 1, 1911, the only daughter of John Samuel and Agnes Maria
Harrison Efford. She married Francis Gawen Delano of Oldhams on
June 2,1934, at her home at Farnham.
A short time later, they moved to her
husband's birthplace, Ingledew, and she lived there for almost
70 years.
Mrs. Delano was a 1928 graduate of Farnham
High School and received her bachelor of science degree in 1932
from the State Teachers College, Harrisonburg, now James Madison
University, where she was president of the YWCA and voted "Most
Dramatic" her senior year. After graduation, she returned to the
Northern Neck and began her teaching career. She had a love for
teaching and for those she taught, always challenging her pupils
to be their best.
For many years, she taught Latin and English
at Richmond County High School and shared her knowledge and joy
of learning with her students. Her friendly, generous spirit and
her story- telling endeared her to family, friends and students.
She was reared in Farnham Baptist Church and
was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church for more than
50 years. Mrs. Delano was an active church and community leader
in women's groups, children's groups, and civic organizations.
She, like her late husband, lived, loved, and labored for the
church, the community, and the land she called home.
She is survived by her children: Frank Pelham
Delano II and his wife, Patricia Joyce Hein, of Warsaw, Sara
Delano Kelly of Arlington and Nancy Delano Moore and her
husband, Hullihen Williams Moore, of Richmond. Known and loved
as "Nannar," she is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Sara
and Frank Moore, Emily, Francis Farrell and Polly Kelly,
Meriwether Delano Gilmore, and Sophia, Priscilla, Nathaniel and
Naomi Delano. She has five great-grandchildren. In addition, her
brother, John Stafford Efford and his wife, Elizabeth, of
Richmond, also survive her. She was predeceased by her parents,
her two brothers, Lawrence and Theodoric, and her husband of
more than fifty years.
The family will be at home, Ingledew, 4543
Oldhams Road, from 4 to 9 p.m. tonight to receive friends.
A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday,
Jan. 24, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Oldhams.

Funeral services for Queen Anne's County Commissioner Rodney O.
"Nemo" Niedomanski, 69, of Grasonville, will be held at 11 a.m.
Thursday at Kent Island United Methodist Church, 2739 Cox Neck
Road, Chester.
Mr. Niedomanski died of heart failure July 2 at his home.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and
tomorrow at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 408 S.
Liberty St., Centreville. Burial will be on Saturday in Ebenezer

Dorothy E.
Thomas, 90, of Colonial Beach died
Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Sunrise of
Severna Park, Md. She was the widow of Lloyd
B. Thomas.
A retired
bookkeeper for the state of Maryland, she
was the former treasurer and an active
member of Colonial Beach United Methodist
Church and the United Methodist Women.
She is
survived by two sons, Larry Elliott and
Larry C. Thomas; three daughters, Carol
Whittington, Kathy Stelle and Eileen Weaver;
14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren;
four great-great-grandchildren; and her
sister, Helen Hennig. She was preceded in
death by son Jeffrey Elliott and
great-granddaughter Sabrina Barony.
A funeral
will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Fort Myer
Chapel (adjacent to Arlington National
Cemetery), with inurnment in Arlington
National Cemetery. A memorial service for
Mrs. Thomas will be held at Colonial Beach
United Methodist Church at a later date.

Blanche B. Kingsbury
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Died
peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2005, after a short illness,
Mrs. Blanche Barker Kingsbury, beloved wife of the late
Honorable T. B. Kingsbury, III and most dearly loved mother of T.
B. Kingsbury, IV of Augusta. Mrs. Kingsbury was born in Crumpler,
N.C. on January 2, 1919, was graduated from Healing Springs High
School, and received her R.N. degree from Somerset Nursing
School in Somerville, N.J. She began married life in 1940, in
Heathsville, Va., then lived in Franklin, Va. for 50 years where
she was a nurse, homemaker, teacher, and most of all, a devoted
wife and mother. Following her husband's death in 1989, she
lived in Blowing Rock, N.C., and then in Augusta for the last
six years. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in
Franklin, Va. Survivors include her son, T. B. Kingsbury, IV and
his wife, Patricia D. Kingsbury, of Augusta; three sisters, Mrs.
Ruth Bennett of Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. Carolyn Peery of Roanoke,
Va., and Mrs. Frances Concannon of Richmond, Va.; and numerous
nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at a later
date at Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery in Oldhams, Va.
