A certificate of death was received January 27,
1881 at the Health Office of Washington for
Sally Hunter, aged 115 years. Sally was born
in Westmoreland county, Virginia, in 1766, and
belonged to the Washington estate, being one of
the servants manumitted by the General’s will.
She had lived in that county ever since until
the war, when she and her children came to this
city. That was about ten years ago, since which
time she has lived at the corner of H and South
Capital Streets, southeast. This is probably the
very last of the servants of George Washington.
